The layout is back under construction after a job change and a lengthy period of inactivity due to moving. The layout did suffer some minor damage during the move (1 Caboose Industries turnout throw broken), but it's set up in the new house and ready to go.
I prepped the track by snipping off some of the ends of the ties, and then painted the rails and ties with Rust-Oleum Camouflage paint.
The next step is to secure the homasote to the benchwork, replace the broken turnout throw, and begin wiring up the layout.
Until next time,
Tom
Hey Tom, good luck with the new job. Do you have the same space for your layout?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michael. Actually, I have a lot less space. The original idea was to extend the benchwork along another wall. The new house is much smaller, and I am limited to using just one wall. I do have about 30 inches I can use for staging, but that's about it for layout space.

Looking good sir.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ken! Started wiring the layout yesterday. My least favorite part of the hobby, but a necessary evil. 😀
ReplyDeleteSo the section you built is all that would fit? At least you have that.
ReplyDeleteYes. The original two sections are all I will be able to fit in the room. There's always the possibility of mounting wall brackets around the room, but that's not feasible at this time. This would also require raising the layout to over 60 inches in height in order to use the space for the bed and dressers.

Is the 30 inches an extra straight section of wall?
ReplyDeleteYes, there's an extra 30 inches from the left side of the benchwork to the wall. This should be sufficient for staging on this small layout.
